20 Avril 2014 : C'est le jour de Pâques

Easter, like in France, is the celebration of Christ rising from the dead, hence the symbol of eggs to represent new life. It’s a much less commercial festival than Christmas although people still send cards and a great many chocolate Easter eggs are sold and eaten. Chocolate symbolises that Lent is over and rich foods can be eaten again. Many people go to church and chicken or lamb is eaten at Easter Sunday lunch.

Some families or villages have egg rolling contests, people dye or paint boiled eggs and throw them down hills in races. Easter bonnet (hats) parades are an American invention.

Traditionally, people also eat Hot Cross Buns….spicy bread like cakes with a cross of pastry on them to symbolise the Cross of Jesus.
